EN - Since more than a year my current hairstyle has been a bob and now I really need to go to the hairdresser as soon as possible to adjust the cut. Looking for some images to bring with me to the hair salon, I have fallen in love with Milla Jovovich's haircut. She has always wonderful short haircuts, often wavy with side parting, slightly a ‘20’s style... fabulous! Another beautiful haircut that I have found is one that Halle Berry used to have some time ago and it is very simple and fashionable at the same time. I am so uncertain that I still do not know which picture I will show tomorrow to the hairdresser... Milla o Halle? I really like both!

IT - Da oltre un anno porto i capelli a caschetto e adesso ho proprio bisogno di andare al più presto dal parrucchiere per farmi aggiustare il taglio. Cercando delle immagini da portare con me, mi sono innamorata del taglio di Milla Jovovich. Lei ha sempre dei meravigliosi tagli corti, spesso ondulati con la riga di lato, un po' anni '20... stupenda! Un altro bel taglio di capelli che ho trovato è uno che Halle Berry portava qualche tempo fa, molto semplice e attuale. Sono così indecisa che non so ancora quale fotografia mostrare domani al parrucchiere... Milla o Halle? Mi piacciono molto entrambe!

IT - Nell'ambito dei tagli medi con styling ondulato, sono molto carini i tagli della modella statunitense Karlie Kloss e dell'attrice Maggie Gyllenhaal (sorella maggiore del bel Jake Gyllenhaal). Il taglio di Karlie Kloss è stato definito da Vogue "the haircut of the moment" ed anche "swingy, sexy—and refreshingly easy to wear". Ultimamente è così famoso e sulla bocca di tutti da meritarsi svariati soprannomi come "the Karlie" o "the Chop". Tra l'altro, non sono splendidi i suoi occhiali da vista?

IT - Tra i tagli medi con piega liscia, il taglio di Ashley Greene - il classico ma sempre attuale caschetto - è molto bello con il suo ciuffo corposo. Milla Jovovich invece riduce i volumi grazie ad una generosa scalatura sul davanti e più leggera dietro.

EN - Welcome spring! The days are getting brighter and the nature is gradually awakening, introducing new wonderful colours as background to our days. Now we just have to start the transition from the dark winter colours to the shining spring ones. I am going to begin right away with a fuchsia lipstick.

FR - Bienvenue printemps! Les journées sont plus lumineuses et la nature se réveille doucement et se colorie. Il ne reste plus qu'à commencer la transition des couleurs foncées d'hiver vers celles brillantes printanières. Je débute tout de suite par le rouge à lèvres, qui à partir d'aujourd'hui sera rigoureusement fuchsia.

IT - Finalmente è primavera! Le giornate sono più luminose e la natura pian piano si risveglia e si colora. Non resta che dare inizio alla transizione dai colori scuri e invernali a quelli brillanti primaverili. Io incomincio subito dal rossetto, da oggi rigorosamente fucsia.

Let's talk about shampoos

I am against the use of an excessive number of beauty products. Looking at beautiful elderly women and asking them their beauty secrets, I have understood that the "less is more" principle perfectly suits to the ideal beauty routine.
I am quite obsessed by my hair (like the most of the women) and I would like them to be always at their best. I thought, wrongly, that buying the most renowned shampoos would  have been good for my hair but it is not true. 

My hair were dull and needed to be washed increasingly often. I realized that something was wrong so, few months ago, I started questioning the use of my current shampoos and even the use of the shampoo itself. Nature equipped us with all we need, so isn't it strange that we need all these artificial products [link]? I am not against beauty products in general, but I am against the excessive number of them and I want to reduce the amount of chemical components on my body to the minimum indispensable.
There are new currents of thought that are the "no poo" and "low poo" methods, i.e. washing hair without commercial shampoos. The harsh components of shampoos strip the sebum (the natural oils your scalp produces) causing the scalp to produce more oil to compensate. This is why we need conditioner after shampoo and this is why we need to wash hair increasingly often. Sebum is a natural moisturizer for your hair and scalp.
There are persons who have quit using shampoo and wash their hair just with water (water eliminates only the excess of sebum, not all of it) [link, link], persons who use the baking soda as shampoo and the apple cider vinegar as conditioner (baking soda is basic and apple cider vinegar is acid, so using them together leaves hair and scalp with a balanced pH) [link] and persons, especially the curly girls, who wash their hair with a conditioner without silicones (this is the co-wash method; conditioner can wash hair because it contains cleansing agents that are milder than the ones of the shampoo) [link] .
These persons experienced an initial transition period of adjustment where the hair becomes greasy because the scalp reacts to the lack of shampoo with excess oil. The advantages of these methods are that you don't remove all the sebum from the scalp, but only the excess of it and your scalp and hair remain moisturized by it. Moreover looking at the INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) of conventional shampoos and conditioners, they contain bad chemical additives such as sodium laureth sulfate and silicone derivatives (silicones coat the hair with a film, preventing moisture from entering the hair, eventually drying it out).
I tried the baking soda and apple cider vinegar and, although I was satisfied with this method, it is not practical carrying these products during the travels or at the gym. I occasionally do the co-wash, but I decided to adopt the low poo method, using an organic shampoo and conditioner. I have a list of ingredients that a natural shampoo and conditioner must not have and, before I buy them, I check their labels. It's a little difficult to find these products, I currently use a baby shampoo. It is incredibly cheap and good.

I am happy with the results, my hair is now much better, very soft and silky and I am aware that I have no builds up on it (the builds up are the chemical insoluble residues remaining on the hair after the rinse). When it's humid my hair gets wavy but I don't care, I know this happens because I have no silicones on it. When I go to the hairdresser for the regular haircuts, I can't avoid their products so, after some days, I do a clarifying shampoo with baking soda and apple cider vinegar to remove the builds up of the commercial products they put on my hair. My hair gets dirty more slowly, so I need to wash it less frequently and this is positive not only for my hair health but also for my time. Psychologically I feel more free because I am not captivated anymore by the shampoo advertisements.
Nobody has the perfect hair, therefore let's accept ours just as it is, without looking for miracle products but relying on our self confidence.

In case that you take the plunge, at the appointment with the hairdresser it will be better to bring some pictures of Michelle Williams from different angles. If you needed a further encouragement, you could repeat to yourself the advice that Baron St. Fontanel told Sabrina to conquer her beloved David: “Oh, you young people are so old-fashioned. Have you not heard? We are building rockets to reach the moon! To begin with, you must stop looking like a horse*”, referring to her ponytail. Then, once you leave the hairdresser's studio, you might say to your friends: “If you should have any difficulty recognising me, I shall be the most sophisticated woman at the Glen Cove station*”. You bet! With a short haircut like Michelle Williams, you would definitely be the most sophisticated woman of the city!

Il suo taglio (in inglese pixie cut, taglio alla folletto) è davvero delizioso, in particolare quando indossa un rossetto acceso e lascia il make-up lievemente lucido per un effetto più naturale (Diego Dalla Palma dice che basta eliminare la cipria).
Nel caso in cui vi decidiate a fare il grande passo, sarebbe meglio portare al parrucchiere tre suoi primi piani (fronte, profilo e retro). Se poi vi servisse un ulteriore incoraggiamento, potreste sempre ripetervi il consiglio che diede il Barone St. Fontanel a Sabrina per conquistare l'uomo di cui era innamorata: “Impossibile? Ah, quanto siete all'antica voi giovani! Cosa dite mai? Ma se è questa l'epoca dell'impossibile! Tanto per incominciare, smettetela di fare il cavallo*”, riferendosi alla coda di cavallo di Sabrina. Infine, uscite dal parrucchiere, potreste poi dire ai vostri amici: “Se non mi riconoscerai, ricordati che sarò la ragazza più sofisticata di tutta la stazione*”. Potete proprio scommetterci, con un taglio di capelli come Michelle Williams, sareste la ragazza più sofisticata di tutta la città!

EN - This hairstyle has always fascinated me overwhelmingly because it encloses elegance and practicalness at the same time. It was the hairstyle par excellence (with numerous versions) of the women until the end of the 19th century. Today it is a must for the parties requiring a formal dress and it is gaining growing popularity as hairstyle for the day.

IT - Questa pettinatura ha da sempre esercitato su di me un fascino irresistibile, perché racchiude in sé eleganza e praticità. È stata la pettinatura per eccellenza (con molteplici varianti) delle donne fino alla fine del 1800, mentre oggi è un must per le feste in abito scuro e acquista popolarità crescente come pettinatura da giorno.

EN - I have been wanting to learn how to do a chignon and finally I succeeded in it! After a lot of videos watched on YouTube (keywords: classical ballet bun), I am now able to do a simple and clean chignon, without visible hair accessories that would ruin the result. Essentially a pony tail twisted around itself and fixed by some hairpins. Since about one month I have been using this hairstyle very often and it gives me a tidy appearance at work and a sophisticated one in the free time. I learnt how much important is, as first step, a well-done pony tail; if the pony tail is not too tight and if the hairpins are not inserted too strongly (but also not too softly), the bun can last even ten hours without troubles nor annoyances and it allows to forget literally the hair. A very good chignon needs only four (!) hairpins (inserted in the four "cardinal points" of the bun). The secret of the success lies not only in technique, but also in the ingredients: the U-shaped hairpins (not the rigid ones) are extraordinary (an experienced saleswoman of the Galeries Lafayette recommended them to me). Lastly I observed how resistant is a chignon (in fact it is used by ballerinas, rhythmic gymnasts and ice skaters, etc).

IT - Desideravo tanto imparare a farlo e finalmente ci sono riuscita! Dopo decine di video guardati su YouTube (parole chiave: classical ballet bun) adesso sono in grado di farmi uno chignon semplice, pulito, senza elastici né fermagli visibili a rovinarne l'effetto. Essenzialmente una coda di cavallo attorcigliata su se stessa e fermata da qualche forcina. Da circa un mese questa pettinatura mi accompagna spessissimo, dandomi un aspetto ordinato in ufficio e sofisticato nel tempo libero. Ho imparato quanto sia importante, come base, una coda di cavallo fatta bene; se la coda non è troppo stretta e se le forcine non sono infilate troppo vigorosamente (ma neanche troppo delicatamente), lo chignon dura anche dieci ore, senza dare fastidio e permettendo di scordarsi dei propri capelli. Quando si azzecca lo chignon, servono solo quattro (!) forcine (messe nei quattro "punti cardinali" dello chignon). Il segreto del successo risiede, oltre che nella tecnica, anche negli ingredienti: straordinarie le forcine ad U non rigide (consigliatemi da un'esperta commessa de Lafayette). Infine ho constatato quanto sia resistente lo chignon (infatti è utilizzato da ballerine di danza classica, ginnaste ritmiche, pattinatrici su ghiaccio, ecc.).

EN - I don't know the precise reason; it could depend on the shape of the eyes, on their colour or on the individual skill. There are women who seem to be born to wear the eye-pencil in the upper side of the eyes and, on the other hand, other ones who acquire a hypnotic magnetism simply thanks to a black line under the eyes.

Between these two categories, I belong to the second one, nevertheless I would really like to experiment with the captivating charm of the cat eyes. I should stand in front of a mirror and, with the make-up remover nearby, I should try and try again... it is just a matter of doing, with steady hand, an upward line in the upper side of the eye. Easier said than done. It is necessary to practice it... or, perhaps, a different eyes shape. Probably I will never find it out. In the meantime, among the other intentions, there is also the desire to learn how to make a decent chignon!

 

IT - Non so da cosa dipenda: se dalla forma degli occhi, dal loro colore o dalla bravura personale. Ci sono donne che sembrano nate per portare la matita sopra gli occhi, altre invece che acquistano un magnetismo ipnotico semplicemente grazie ad una riga nera sotto gli occhi. 

Io, tra le due categorie, mi colloco nella seconda, eppure mi piacerebbe molto sperimentare il fascino ammaliante degli occhi di gatto. Dovrei mettermi davanti allo specchio e, con lo struccante accanto pronto per l'uso, provare e riprovare... in fondo si tratta solo di fare, con mano ferma, una riga sopra l'occhio che vada all'insù. Semplice a dirsi, tremendamente difficile a farsi. Ci vuole allenamento... o forse una forma  diversa degli occhi. Probabilmente non lo scoprirò mai. Intanto, tra gli altri propositi, c'è anche quello di imparare a fare uno chignon decente!

EN - Concerning the hair length, the women are divided into three categories: the supporters of the long hair, the devoted ones to the short hair and those who change the haircut with the same fickleness they have when they change the nail polish. Many women tried, at least one time in the life, the thrill of a short haircut. This experience was for some as a light on the road to Damascus, after years spent among untangling conditioners, hairdryers, brushes and chronic nervous breakdown; for others, on the contrary, it was an unforgivable mistake that must not be repeated any more.

The long hair is for sure the big classic par excellence however, even a woman beyond suspicion like Angelina Jolie tried, many years ago, a very short haircut, rather male. Enchanting Winona Ryder, since many years with jaunty short hair often adorned with hairbands. Gwyneth Paltrow, in Sliding Doors, left her insipid brunette long hair and she revived after a therapeutic session at the hairdressing salon where she got a highlighted  haircut, very glamour. The so famous and (apparently) ruffled haircut of Meg Ryan converted thousand of fans, who rushed to the hairdressing salon with a picture of her in the hands;  same destiny for Natalie Imbruglia with her sweet haircut characterized by a casual forelock and layered wisps. If one doesn't want to dare an excessively short haircut, may opt for a bob, like Charlize Theron, with her not so short haircut, fluffy and wavy. The latest addicted? Emma Watson, Carey Mulligan, Michelle William and let's also mention who transformed the hairstyle in a trademark, like Victoria Beckham and Agyness Deyn.

Don't be afraid that the short hair are too male, indeed there are essential differences: in a woman the contours are indefinite and absolutely not sharp, thanks to layered extremities and to the presence of wisps. A woman who chooses the short hair is aware of her womanliness and that her charm does not depend on the centimetres of her hair. The short hair liberates the face, enhances the features, brings out the neck and lightens the figure. It is also jaunty, vaguely rascal, terribly modern, but surely super-womanly too.

IT - Le donne, per quanto riguarda la lunghezza dei capelli, si dividono in tre categorie: le fedelissime al lungo, le devote al corto e quelle che cambiano taglio con la stessa scioltezza con la quale cambiano lo smalto delle unghie. Molte hanno provato, almeno una volta nella vita, l’ebbrezza del corto. Questa esperienza è stata per alcune come un’illuminazione sulla via di Damasco, dopo anni passati tra balsami districanti, phon, spazzola ed esaurimento nervoso cronico; per altre, invece, un errore imperdonabile da non ripetere mai più.
Il lungo rimane certamente il grande classico per eccellenza, tuttavia persino un’insospettabile “chioma lunga” come Angelina Jolie ha provato, da giovanissima, un taglio cortissimo molto maschile. Incantevole Winona Ryder, da molti anni ormai con un taglio corto sbarazzino spesso valorizzato da fasce e cerchietti. Se non si vuole osare con un taglio eccessivamente corto, si può sempre optare per un carrè, come Charlize Theron con il suo “corto ma non troppo”, vaporoso ed ondulato. Le ultime addicted? Emma Watson, Carey Mulligan e Michelle William, per non parlare di coloro che hanno fatto del corto parte integrante della loro personalità e del loro stile, come Victoria Beckham e Agyness Deyn.
Non si tema che il corto sia troppo maschile, infatti ci sono differenze sostanziali: in una donna i contorni sono indefiniti e assolutamente non netti, grazie alle punte sfilate e alla presenza di ciuffi. Una donna che sceglie di portare i capelli corti è consapevole della sua femminilità e del fatto che il suo fascino non dipenda dai centimetri della sua chioma. Un taglio alla garçonne  libera il viso, esalta i lineamenti, valorizza il collo, alleggerisce la figura ed è anche sbarazzino, vagamente ribelle, tremendamente moderno, ma certamente anche ultrafemminile.

Unaware natural allure

EN - We love and hate our hair at the same time. The hair is an integral part of our allure, it plays a lead role to complete our image and, technically, it gives us infinite combinations. It's not casual that a woman often starts from a new haircut when she needs some changes.

IT - In fondo li amiamo e odiamo allo stesso tempo. Sono parte integrante del nostro fascino, giocano un ruolo da protagonista nel completare la nostra immagine e, tecnicamente, ci forniscono combinazioni infinite. Non è un caso che una donna, quando desidera cambiare o rinnovarsi, spesso inizia proprio da un nuovo taglio di capelli.

EN - It's a complete desperation when our hair has an off-day. You can shape it but, in any case, you will never have the total control. 

IT - Durante i loro giorni "no" ci fanno disperare. Si fanno modellare, ma è comunque impossibile averne il controllo totale.

EN - Therefore it is better to adopt a bit of philosophy in order to do not care about wind and wet weather... after all, the beauty often resides in a natural imperfection and that wisp out of place... how much unaware allure donates us!

IT - Meglio dunque rassegnarsi, con un po' di sana filosofia, a pioggia, vento e umido... in fondo la bellezza risiede spesso in una naturale imperfezione e, quel capello fuori posto... quanto fascino inconsapevole ci dona!
