Midsummer days

EN – It's a late and pleasantly warm afternoon of a midsummer day, the sky is painted by pink and orange brushstrokes of the sunset rays and I am waiting for the girls at a table of a trendy café. There is the typical atmosphere of a nearly empty city before the summer break, with the calm around before the storm (read "September"). I am sipping a glass of rosé and I can’t help but running with my thoughts towards the next holidays among sun, sea, wind and blue sky. Only few dresses and some swimsuits – in the shades of the sea and the sky – are needed in order to feel that lovely and light sensation of freedom typical of the holiday days. These days will be light-hearted like the simplicity of the hair dried by the sun and then gathered up in a messy chignon, the green eye pencil and the cherry lip gloss as sole makeup for the evening and the large sunglasses like Jacqueline Kennedy as sophisticated accessory for the day. These days will leave, in September, a sweet memory of the breakfasts with cream of coffee and brioche at the café in the small square of the old town centre, the bicycle races along the seafront during the sunset and the dinners at that delicious restaurant with the fish as culinary speciality and with the terrace under the stars of a very dark blue sky, indistinguishable from the sea (Mediterranean Sea, ça va sans dire).

IT – È un tardo e piacevolmente caldo pomeriggio di mezza estate, il cielo è colorato da pennellate rosa e arancione del sole al tramonto ed io sono seduta ad un tavolinetto di un bar in centro, aspettando delle amiche. In giro c’è quella tipica atmosfera della città che si svuota prima della pausa estiva, con la calma rilassante – a tratti quasi surreale – prima della tempesta (leggasi “settembre”). Sorseggiando un bicchiere di rosé, non posso fare a meno di volare con la mente verso i prossimi giorni di vacanza tra sole, mare, vento e cielo. Mi serviranno solo pochi vestitini e qualche costume e pareo – nei toni del mare e del cielo – per assaporare quella dolce sensazione di libertà che le vacanze regalano. Saranno giorni leggeri come la semplicità dei capelli asciugati al sole e raccolti in uno chignon disordinato, della matita verde e del lucidalabbra alla ciliegia come unico trucco per la sera e delle grandi lenti scure alla Jacqueline Kennedy come sofisticato vezzo per il giorno. Questi giorni lasceranno a settembre un dolce ricordo delle colazioni con crema di caffè e brioche al bar in piazzetta, delle corse in bici sul lungomare al tramonto e delle cene in quell’incantevole ristorantino con le specialità a base di pesce e con la terrazza sotto il cielo trapunto di stelle, intensamente blu ed indistinguibile dal mare (Mediterraneo, ça va sans dire).

Why fashion?

EN - Fashion charms me like the turquoise and emerald reflections of the Mediterranean Sea and fascinates me like an elderly classy lady, elegant and polished for a lifetime.

IT - La moda mi ammalia come i riflessi color turchese e smeraldo del Mar Mediterraneo e mi affascina come un'anziana signora di classe, elegante e curata da una vita.

EN - I love fashion because it is an art form and because it is frivolous and I am slightly frivolous, just the small amount normally allowed to each women. I love fashion because it is light, evanescent and, from an adequate distance, it is also a little magic: it carries me towards a glittering Hogwarts located on a elegant Neverland in my mind. Fashion cheers me up and and provides me with a perky energy to start good the day: give me a circle skirt, a pair of two-coloured ballerina shoes, a red lipstick and I will conquer the world!

IT - Amo la moda perché è una forma d'arte; perché è frivola e io sono leggermente frivola (quel pizzico che basta per sentirmi femminile); perché è leggera, evanescente, e – da una certa distanza – anche un po' magica: mi trasporta verso una sfavillante Hogwarts che si trova su un'elegante Isola Che Non C'è della mia mente.
La moda mi tira su il morale e mi da la carica giusta per iniziare al meglio la giornata: datemi una gonna a ruota, un paio di ballerine bicolori, un rossetto rosso e conquisterò il mondo.

EN - Catherine and Charlotte are beautiful, with long brown wavy hair, green eyes for one and blue eyes for the other. They have a slender figure and both are fond of sport and fashion as well. Catherine and Charlotte are the two young European aristocrats to be kept an eye on, because they have a lot of class  and style. One has the elegance of a British young lady, always accompanied by impeccable make-up and hair set, the other has a French chic attitude, with her distinctive messy bun. Catherine and Charlotte have two opposite stiles, but complementary by and large and both equally fascinating.

IT - Lunghi capelli castani e ondulati, occhi verdi per una e blu per l'altra, bellissime, fisico slanciato, sportive e amanti della moda, Catherine e Charlotte sono le due giovani aristocratiche europee da tenere d'occhio al momento, perché hanno stile e classe da vendere.
Con un'eleganza da “British young lady” con piega e trucco impeccabili per una e con un atteggiamento molto “French chic” con immancabile chignon disordinato per l'altra, Catherine e Charlotte hanno due stili opposti ma complementari ed entrambi ugualmente affascinanti.

EN - Barcelona emanates a scent of life from every corner. It is a cheerful city that will never bore you. Barcelona will instil in you a great amount of energy and it will put you in a good mood – the exquisite Latin good mood – that will pervade your mind and will remain in your heart like a good memory of a pleasant holiday. I would never get tired of walking back and forth along La Rambla, amid the messy crowd, stopping at the market of La Boquería, so lively, colourful and fragrant. I would never get tired of the long walks at the port or at the Barceloneta beach, looking at the rays of sunshine that are mirrored on the beautiful Mediterranean Sea during the sunset. I would never get tired of losing my way among all the narrow streets of the Gothic Quarter and listening the street musicians at Plaza Reial. Barcelona does not make you tired at all, on the contrary, the more you live this city, the more this city returns you its Latin playfulness.

IT - Barcellona sprizza vita da ogni angolo. È una città allegra che non annoia mai, che infonde una grande carica di energia e buon umore – dal sapore squisitamente latino – che pervade la mente e resta nel cuore come un dolce ricordo di una piacevole vacanza. Non mi stancherei mai di camminare avanti e indietro per la Rambla, in mezzo alla folla disordinata, fermandomi al mercato della Boquería, così vivace, colorato e profumato. Non mi stancherei mai delle lunghe passeggiate al porto o sulla spiaggia della Barceloneta, rapita dalla midiade di riflessi lucenti del sole che, tramontando, si specchia sul meraviglioso Mar Mediterrano. Non mi stancherei mai di perdermi la sera per i numerosi vicoli del quartiere gotico e di ascoltare i musicisti ambulanti a Plaza Reial. Barcellona non stanca, al contrario, più la vivi, più lei ti ricambia con la sua allegria latina.

EN - The food is very good in Barcelona, especially in the places appreciated by the autochthonous persons. There is nothing better than starting well the day with a breakfast at the ancient Café Zurich (Plaza Catalunya, 1). It is unmissable a lunch at the market of La Boquería (Rambla, 91) or a lunch with tapas at Tapa Tapa (Passeig de Gràcia, 44), that is located in front of Casa Batlló. In the evening you can eat a good paella at the restaurant La Fonda (Carrer dels Escudellers, 10) or you can have a bellyful of fresh fish of the market in one of the excellent restaurants La Paradeta. Me gusta mucho la cocina española!

IT - A Barcellona si mangia molto bene, soprattutto nei posti frequentati dagli autoctoni. Non c'è niente di meglio che iniziare bene la giornata con una colazione allo storico Café Zurich (Plaza Catalunya, 1). Imperdibile un pranzo ai bar della Boquería (Rambla, 91) o un pranzo a base di tapas al Tapa Tapa (Passeig de Gràcia, 44), con i tavolinetti all'aperto con vista su Casa Batlló. Infine cena a base di paella al ristorante La Fonda (Carrer dels Escudellers, 10) oppure un'abbuffata di pesce fresco di mercato in uno degli ottimi ristoranti La Paradeta. Me gusta mucho la cocina española!

Changes

EN - There are moments, in life, in which changes are necessary and we devote all our energies to reach them (it is essential not to surrender to an unchangeable present). Other times, on the contrary, the changes simply happen, regardless of our will. Πάντα ῥεῖ ὡς ποταμός, used to say Heraclitus. The changes are the essence of the nature and they must be accepted, or faced, with an open and reactive mind.

IT - Arrivano dei momenti, nella vita, in cui dei cambiamenti sono necessari e sono cercati con tutte le proprie energie (è fondamentale trovare sempre la forza di cercare di cambiare le cose e non arrendersi alla staticità di un presente immutevole). Altre volte, invece, i cambiamenti avvengono e basta, indipendentemente dalla nostra volontà. Πάντα ῥεῖ ὡς ποταμός, diceva Eraclito. I cambiamenti sono l'essenza della natura e bisogna accoglierli, o affrontarli, con una mente aperta e reattiva.

EN - Breakfast at the bakery. A language course with students from all over the world. Feeling intensely the spring. That wonderful sensation of "everything is new".

IT - La colazione al panificio. Un corso di lingua con studenti da tutto il mondo. Sentire la primavera come non la si sentiva da molto tempo. Quella meravigliosa sensazione di "tutto è nuovo".

EN - I am coping with a great change, which reflects itself in many wonderful small changes. A new life, in a new city, in a new country. And a lot of new persons. 

This gives me a great new energy.

IT - Sto vivendo un grande cambiamento, che si riflette in tanti piccoli meravigliosi cambiamenti. Una nuova vita, in una nuova città, in un un nuovo paese. E tante persone nuove. 

Tutto ciò mi da un'immensa nuova carica.
